Despite it’s population of just 770 locals this small picturesque village benefits from a great selection of local amenities. There are two convenience stores with the Spar stocking a surprising depth of assortment for its size. There is also an excellent Butchers/Bakers that has been run by generations of Elliotts. Their Steak Pie has to be tried at least once during your stay!
The village has a great cafe offering fantastic service, hot food and superb coffee up to 4pm everyday. There is also an excellent recently refurbished cafe and bistro which is currently offering takeaways from a great menu and they will be extending their opening hours for the 2026 season.
There are also two bars serving drinks every evening. All of this hospitality is within easy walking distance of the cottage.
The village also boasts Garage services and a community run Petrol Station with an EV charging point. Newcastleton is also surrounded by some of the densest forests in Europe which are home to over 50% of Europe's Red Squirrel population! There is plenty to see and do for the most adventurous or sedate of travellers.
